GOOD & EXCITING POINT REYES NEWS!!!    5/11/2008

A plan has been worked out with the Point Reyes National Seashore Management to install six new picnic tables, new mounting blocks (also to be used as hiker’s rests) and eight new hitching rails at various points in the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Locations include Divide Meadow, Estero Trailhead, PaloMarin, Coast Camp, Sky Camp and Bass Lake.

Installation will be completed as soon as the approved items have been purchased and transported to a selected location in Point Reyes. We (volunteer manpower) will install items within the park. The undersigned and ‘volunteers’ soon to be recruited will also handle the installations in those areas we can reach from outside, such as PaloMarin and Estero. Equestrians will be able to stop, tie up, rest, enjoy lunch, remount with ease, and be on their way to and from many more locations than are presently so equipped.

Once the installations are complete, a list of their locations and the amenities will be published for all to read and enjoy.

Costs are estimated at a figure approaching $7,500. We have to raise all the money. The National Park System has no funds available for such use.

Grant requests and other requests for funds are already in process.  Some donations have been received totaling close to $1,000. Anyone who rides at Point Reyes and wishes to help us in our fund- raising efforts by donating can do so, and gain our thanks at the same time! If you are so inclined and have a few spare bucks, send a check in any amount, made out to the Marin Horse Council and noted “Point Reyes”,

To: Sandy Greenblat, 105 Bay Way, San Rafael CA 94901. I’ll log in all checks and send them on to the Marin Horse Council.

Many thanks…… It has been a long road and we are really pleased as we approach the final stage of this program.

Happy Trails, Happy Resting, Happy Hitching and Happy Mounting!

Sandy Greenblat

Latest News Concerning Stewarts Horse Camp

Stewart Horse Camp -- SAVED!
4/7/2008
Connie Berto reports the existing operators of Stewart Horse Camp have signed the contract with the National Park Service to continue as the official concessionaires. The signing took place on Friday March 28.

The "Trail Rules" submitted by the Marin Horse Council as part of the conditions were approved. The plans to develop the front meadow (next to Hwy. One) for more campers has been put on hold.

Thanks to a lot of work by a few individuals and also in part to a widespread letter-writing campaign, the situation was changed from potentially disastrous to that of a happy conclusion.  The tradition will continue!
